Sustainability

Adopting the principle of protecting the right to life of future generations, Viking Paper continues to work without compromising its sustainability-focused management policy in all its business processes.

Viking Paper determines its sustainability strategies and targets in line with Yaşar Group's Sustainability Policy, understanding and priorities. The company, also having the aim of developing its own sector, reflects the group's understanding of "taking good care of all its stakeholders for a better life" to all its processes spanning from supply to end consumers. Viking Paper carries out its activities in line with the business objectives with a science-based, quality-oriented approach that can respond to the needs of the society, and these activities also serve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

Viking Paper continues to conduct its sustainability activities within the framework of determined priorities under the coordination of the Sustainability Committee, which has been formed with the participation of company employees, and the Climate Crisis Working Group and Gender Equality Working Group affiliated to the committee. The committee and working groups strive to implement the company’s strategies, achieve the predetermined goals and ensure that the sustainability approach prevails throughout Yaşar Group.

Viking Paper Sustainability Committee, that is responsible for the execution of Environmental and Social Management Policies, takes an active role in many projects throughout the year. The leaders of the committee work on monitoring the performance indicators designated to achieve the targets and coordinating the annual sustainability report.

Addressing the climate crisis as a critical risk due to its economic, social, and environmental effects, Viking Paper closely follows the developments regarding the climate crisis. Working on the tasks of reducing carbon, water footprint and energy density through risk assessments realized throughout the entire value chain, the company takes the balance of natural resource use and protection into consideration, with the awareness of the ecological footprint impact.

Working to leave a better world to future generations in line with its sustainability goals, Viking Paper has added a new one to the firsts it brought to the sector and started to recycle cellulose fibers from beverage carton packages and produce eco-friendly, super-soft and natural-colored hygienic papers from these high quality fibers!

Viking Paper produces 100% recycled, super soft hygienic papers from beverage carton packages thanks to the brand new, ecological “Recyfiber®” technology solution, which is a first in the tissue paper industry in Turkey and implemented in partnership with Tetra Pak®.

Having succeeded in processing quality cellulose fibers obtained from beverage carton packages and turning them into eco-friendly products, Viking Paper also managed to create an alternative to cellulose import with this investment in addition to the ecological, supply and economic benefits it provides.

With this project, the company has brought the beverage carton packages, which have a very low evaluation rate in Turkey due to the insufficient separation efforts, to the national economy as workable aluminum and kraft. Viking Paper contributes to both the circular economy and sustainable environment thanks to the “UBC – Used Beverage Carton” type hygenic papers produced from recycled cellulose fibers inside the beverage carton packages.
